LAWN LEVELER

A lush, dense lawn is the dream of many garden enthusiasts. Unfortunately, lawns often struggle with compaction, waterlogging, or insufficient aeration, leading to uneven growth and unsightly patches. This is where aerating comes in – a simple yet highly effective method to keep your lawn healthy in the long term. Here you’ll find both the right equipment and the expertise needed to care for your lawn optimally.

    Why a Lawn Leveler?

A truly level lawn is more than just aesthetics. Water collects in depressions, promoting waterlogging and moss; on bumps, the lawn gets scalped when mowed. Anyone working with low cutting heights – for example, with areel mower– will immediately notice every unevenness in the cut pattern. The lawn leveler gradually evens out these irregularities: The metal mesh distributes sand or substrate evenly over the area, fills holes and depressions, and allows the grass blades to pass through unharmed.

Typical uses include working in sand afteraeratingor scarifying, applying topdressing, leveling molehills, and preparing a fine, level seedbed before reseeding.

Screwed instead of welded – that's why our leveler is straight

When welding stainless steel, heat is generated, and heat means distortion: The material expands, contracts when cooling, and thereby warps the frame – often only by a few millimeters, but with a tool whose sole purpose is a flat surface, a few millimeters are crucial. That's why we screw the frame of our lawn leveler instead of welding it. What is joined without heat does not distort. The result is a leveler surface that is actually straight – and a straight tool is the prerequisite for a straight surface.

    Work upright instead of sweeping

Most lawn levelers are operated with a sweeping motion – bent over, with a sideways swing from the upper body. On a larger area, this strains the back. Our leveler therefore has a T-handle on the shaft: You push and pull the device standing upright, with the force coming from your arms instead of your bent back. Especially when working in topdressing, which is done crosswise in several passes, this makes the difference between a pleasant hour in the garden and a strained evening afterwards.

Well thought out down to the last detail

The frame is made of stainless steel, the leveling surface measures 90 × 25 cm. Those aiming for very level surfaces can extend it to a working width of 1.80 m on both sides with the screw-onextensions– the wider the support, the flatter the result. The extensions show their strength on already largely even surfaces when it comes to the final fine-tuning.

The 1.60 m long handle is made of powder-coated steel in anthracite. It is supplied in two parts and assembled with two screws – the appropriate tool is included. The handle is attached to the frame itself without tools: For storage, you can remove it in seconds, and the leveler disappears space-savingly on the shelf instead of awkwardly in the corner.

For those who prefer to choose their own handle, the leveler is also available as a variant without a handle. A commercially available wooden handle fits – note that two holes must be drilled into the wooden handle for attachment.

How to work with the lawn leveler

Before leveling, the lawn is mown short and ideally aerated or scarified – this allows the sand to enter the opened turf and the channels created, where it permanently improves drainage. Then apply the sand or topdressing in thin layers: The grasses must be able to grow through the layer, it should not be more than about one centimeter at a time. It is better to fill larger depressions over several passes at intervals of a few weeks. It is worked in crosswise – first in strips in one direction, then across. The mesh distributes the material by itself into the lower-lying areas; you only guide the leveler smoothly over the surface.
